In 2025, the Art Museum of Estonia’s branches, exhibitions and public programmes were visited by 388,600 art lovers.Over the course of the year, the number of visitors to the Art Museum of Estonia increased significantly. While art lovers visited our museums about 350,000 times each in 2023 and 2024, last year there were 38,600 more visitors.

Please note that all branches of the Art Museum of Estonia will be closed on December 24–26, December 29, and December 31–January 1. You’re very welcome to visit us on December 23, when all branches will be open until 3 p.m. We’ll also be happy to see you again from December 27 to 28 and on December 30, when the museum is open as usual. In the new year, all branches and exhibitions will reopen on Friday, January 2.

On 17 February 2026, Kumu Art Museum will turn 20. For twenty years, Kumu has been home to the world’s only permanent exhibition of Estonian art and has organised outstanding international and Estonian art exhibitions. Throughout its anniversary year, Kumu will look both to the past and to the future with its programme of exhibitions and special events.

Starting on Thursday, 4 December, the Kumu Art Museum project space will host the exhibition Carl Sigismund Walther: In the Artist’s Living Room, which accompanies the publication of the first comprehensive monograph on Walther. Walther was one of the innovators of the role and status of artists in 19th-century Estonia and a promoter of Tallinn’s art scene. The authors of the book and curators of the exhibition are Triin Kröönström and Kadi Polli.

The Art Museum of Estonia, which celebrates its 106th anniversary on 17 November, offers art lovers extraordinary experiences at its exhibitions, including masterpieces by such great artists as Lucas Cranach, El Greco, Gerhard Richter, and Flemish and Dutch painters. The entire anniversary-week programme emphasises the museum’s role as an engaging partner for a wide and diverse audience: art speaks to all ages and in all languages.

The Pledge of Freedom: The Art Collection of Mykolas Žilinskas exhibition will open at the Mikkel Museum on 8 November, introducing the audience to the best works from the collection of Lithuania’s foremost art collector of the 20th century, from magnificent paintings by Old Masters to 20th-century art.

From Friday, 24 October, the Great Hall of the Kumu Art Museum will host a high-profile joint exhibition by the Art Museum of Estonia and the Dresden State Art Collections, Spiegel im Spiegel: Encounters between Estonian and German Art from Lucas Cranach to Arvo Pärt and Gerhard Richter. After a successful run in Dresden over the summer, the exhibition will now open in Estonia. It is being curated by Kadi Polli, Marion Ackermann and Sergey Fofanov.

Starting on Friday, 17 October, Kumu will host the exhibition Tu and Whozzy, created especially for children. This playful exhibition expands on the permanent exhibition of older Estonian art, Landscapes of Identity: Estonian Art 1700–1945, and invites visitors to join the characters Tu and Whozzy in discovering how art reflects who we are, helping them to understand themselves and others better.

The exhibition Twilight Geometry, which opens in the Kumu Art Museum on 26 September, presents the oeuvre of the artist and interior designer Mari Kurismaa (b. 1956) from the end of the 1970s to the early 2000s, revealing the diversity of the artist’s creativity.

On 5 September, the most comprehensive survey exhibition ever of the oeuvre of the feminist artist and activist Anna-Stina Treumund (1982–2017), How to Recognise a Lesbian?, will open to the public in the Kumu Art Museum. The exhibition and the accompanying book map her activities as a photographer, artist and activist. The curators of the exhibition are Piret Karro-Arrak, Magdaleena Maasik and Triin Tulgiste-Toss (1987–2024).

The Art Museum of Estonia is marking the Song and Dance Celebration week with special guided tours across all five of its branches: Kumu Art Museum, Niguliste Museum, Kadriorg Art Museum, Mikkel Museum, and Adamson-Eric. On July 2–4, each museum will host two special short tours daily: at 1 p.m. in English and at 3 p.m. in Estonian.

On Friday, 13 June, renovation work began in the Kumu atrium, the central lobby of the Kumu Art Museum. The renovation will continue through the end of the year, with the most intensive construction activity scheduled for the summer months. Despite the ongoing work, the museum will remain open to visitors as usual.
