Kumu’s exhibition They Began to Talk explores the connection between the body and the environment
From 7 February, the Kumu Art Museum’s Contemporary Art Gallery will host the international group exhibition They Began to Talk. The exhibition brings together the practices of artists working in Estonia and other Baltic countries with those from Indigenous communities in the Nordic countries, exploring the possibility of recovering and cultivating a sense of reconnection between body and land.

The second part of Hilda Kamdron’s exhibition opens at the Kumu Art Museum
Starting 21 January, the second part of Hilda Kamdron’s (1900–1972) Tartu-themed drawings will be on display in the project space of the Kumu Art Museum. Dating back to the 1960s, this collection depicts the construction of the modernist Annelinn district in Tartu.

350,000 art lovers visited the Art Museum of Estonia last year
In the year 2024, 349,004 art lovers visited the branches, exhibitions and audience programmes of the Art Museum of Estonia. Among them, over 25,100 students and adults took part in educational programmes.

Enn Põldroos’s solo exhibition in Kumu provides insights into the artist’s oeuvre through leitmotifs
On 6 December, the artist Enn Põldroos’s (b 1933) solo survey exhibition Museum of Obsessions will open in the Great Hall of the Kumu Art Museum. The exhibition includes Põldroos’s works from the 1950s to the 2020s. The curator of the exhibition is Anders Härm.

Latin American art exhibition at the Kumu Art Museum closes with Mexican Day of the Dead celebrations
The large-scale exhibition of Latin American art is open for the last few days at the Kumu Art Museum. Starting from today, a traditional Mexican Day of the Dead altar – ofrenda – is on display in the Kumu Atrium as part of the exhibition’s closing programme. The main events will take place on Saturday, 2 November, while the exhibition and the altar will remain open until Sunday, 3 November.

The exhibition by Urmas Lüüs at Kumu explores the birth of the Estonian bourgeoisie
The exhibition takes the visitor to the house museum of the fictitious Mr. N, which tells the story of the birth of the bourgeoisie in Estonia in the 1920s and 1930s in numerous staged rooms, with the help of new objects by Lüüs and works from museum collections.

The Kumu courtyard fills with Latin American music, food and stories
On Saturday, 31 August, the Kumu Art Museum is hosting a Latin American-themed Courtyard Festival, in collaboration with the Latin American community in Estonia. The event is linked to the current exhibition of Latin American art in Kumu’s Great Hall, and seeks to highlight the cultural richness and diversity of this vast and fascinating region.

A precious gift to the Art Museum of Estonia: the von Ramm family portraits have been added to the museum’s collection
On Monday, 19 August, members of the von Ramm family donated three very interesting Baltic German family portraits to the collection of the Art Museum of Estonia. The portraits depict the 18th century nobles Karl Adolf von Ramm, Margarete Elisabeth von Ramm (née Stael von Holstein) and Hedwig Ulrike von Ramm (née von Delwig).

The first major exhibition of Latin American art to open in Estonia
This is the largest display of Latin American art in Estonia so far. The exhibition features art from two eras: the Spanish colonial period from the 17th to the 19th century, and the first half of the 20th century.
