Starting on Friday, 17 October, Kumu will host the exhibition Tu and Whozzy, created especially for children. This playful exhibition expands on the permanent exhibition of older Estonian art, Landscapes of Identity: Estonian Art 1700–1945, and invites visitors to join the characters Tu and Whozzy in discovering how art reflects who we are, helping them to understand themselves and others better.

The exhibition Twilight Geometry, which opens in the Kumu Art Museum on 26 September, presents the oeuvre of the artist and interior designer Mari Kurismaa (b. 1956) from the end of the 1970s to the early 2000s, revealing the diversity of the artist’s creativity.

On 5 September, the most comprehensive survey exhibition ever of the oeuvre of the feminist artist and activist Anna-Stina Treumund (1982–2017), How to Recognise a Lesbian?, will open to the public in the Kumu Art Museum. The exhibition and the accompanying book map her activities as a photographer, artist and activist. The curators of the exhibition are Piret Karro-Arrak, Magdaleena Maasik and Triin Tulgiste-Toss (1987–2024).

The Art Museum of Estonia is marking the Song and Dance Celebration week with special guided tours across all five of its branches: Kumu Art Museum, Niguliste Museum, Kadriorg Art Museum, Mikkel Museum, and Adamson-Eric. On July 2–4, each museum will host two special short tours daily: at 1 p.m. in English and at 3 p.m. in Estonian.

On Friday, 13 June, renovation work began in the Kumu atrium, the central lobby of the Kumu Art Museum. The renovation will continue through the end of the year, with the most intensive construction activity scheduled for the summer months. Despite the ongoing work, the museum will remain open to visitors as usual.

On Saturday, 7 June the inner courtyard of Kumu will be filled with artists and performers with links to Iceland. There will be workshops inspired by Iceland and the Nordic countries, exhibitions tours, live music and delicious Nordic food. This Kumu Courtyard Festival is inspired by A Boy and a Girl and a Bush and a Bird, the solo exhibition of the Icelandic video artist and painter Ragnar Kjartansson.

The first Estonian solo exhibition of the works of the Icelandic video artist and painter Ragnar Kjartansson will open in the Kumu Art Museum on 16 May. The display will include six large-scale works from 2004–2025.

From 8 May the exhibition Spiegel im Spiegel: Encounters Between Estonian and German Art from Lucas Cranach to Arvo Pärt and Gerhard Richter will be open in the magnificent exhibition hall of the Kunsthalle im Lipsiusbau in Dresden. This is the largest ever display of Estonian art in Germany. The exhibition was organised in cooperation between the Dresden State Art Collections (Staatliche Kunststammlungen Dresden, SKD) and the Art Museum of Estonia, and it is being curated by Marion Ackermann, Sergey Fofanov and Kadi Polli.

The Art Museum of Estonia and the Tallinn Bus Station have brought reproductions of classic Estonian art works to six large stands on the bus platform, offering the joy of recognition to every Estonian. The selection includes works by the beloved classics Kristjan Raud, Eduard Wiiralt, Konrad Mägi, Nikolai Triik, Enn Põldroos and Elmar Kits.

On Wednesday, 19 March two valuable portraits by the Baltic German artist Gustav Adolf Hippius (1792‒1856) arrived in Estonia. The portraits of the Hageri pastor David Friedrich Ignatius and his wife Magdalena Christina belonged to the German-Baltic Society (Deutsch-Baltische Gesellschaft, DBGes). Because Hippius’s paintings are of great cultural and art historical importance for Estonia, it was decided to donate them to the Art Museum of Estonia.

The exhibition The Mei Sisters: Avant-Garde and the Everyday Life by the sisters Kristine (1895–1969), Lydia (1896–1965) and Natalie (1900–1975) Mei will open at the Kumu Art Museum on 14 March, bringing the creative legacy of three unique female artists to the public on a large scale for the first time. The exhibition is curated by Kai Stahl, Eha Komissarov and Ulrika Jõemägi.

With the aim of revitalising cross-disciplinary research on Estonian art of the first half of the 20th century and strengthening networks of researchers working in this field, the project brings together scholars from Estonia, Norway, Latvia, Denmark and other countries. The research project was initiated by the Art Museum of Estonia.
