The power and colours of plants
An introductory plant dyeing workshop “The power and colours of plants”, where we will experiment with wool, silk and cotton. You can also bring small pieces of linen, hemp or other plant-based fabric.. You will learn the basics of using different plants and other materials, their pros and cons as well as the quantities required. We will also explore the tools and steps of natural plant dyeing. All necessary materials are available in the class. We will carry out a couple of dye trials with early summer plants.
The instructor, Belliisi Seenemaa, is a freelance artist who trained at the Tartu Art School as a decorator and stylist and studied textile art at the Higher Art School Pallas. She has also taken courses in e-textile technologies in Berlin and in traditional leatherwork in France, and has explored traditional plant-based fibre processing and dyeing practices in Estonia.
The course is in Estonian but instruction in English is possible.
