Lecture and Workshop: Surrealism (in Russian)
The lecture will introduce the lives and works of three artists: René Magritte, Yves Tanguy and Frida Kahlo. It will examine how surrealism emerged, its historical background and why the surrealists were so fascinated by dreams, the subconscious and the role of chance. The style and themes of the works will be discussed and the unusual techniques that the surrealists invented when creating their works will be explored. In the practical part, the grattage technique will be tested.
