Movement Workshop “Queerness in Movement” by Rene Köster

In the movement workshop Queerness in Movement, we will delve into the relationship between movement, body and sexuality to discover the queerness that exists in all of us. Through movement exercises, including elements of contemporary dance and vogue culture, we will learn to find, accept and consecrate our peculiarities.

A museum ticket is required to attend the workshop.
Please pre-book here.

In the first half of the workshop, we will focus on our inner energy, and sensing and trusting our bodies through practising improvisation. In contrast, the second half concentrates on performance: directing our energy outwards. To do so, we will acquaint ourselves with the different rules and categories of vogue/ballroom culture, such as lip-sync performance.

This workshop welcomes anyone who has an open mind, a passion for movement or enthusiasm for queer culture. So, don’t be shy if this is your first experience with a dance class! The workshop offers a safe and inspiring space for people who wish to practice together, learn something new, or just reconnect with their beauty, talent and sexuality.

“My hope is that after this workshop, you are full of confidence, love and positivity for both yourself and the world, and ready to share it with others!” said Rene Köster.

This workshop is a collaboration with Sõltumatu Tantsu Lava (Independent Dance Stage). The workshop is led by Rene Köster.

Rene Köster has been active in the Estonian dance scene since 2005, when he began to teach in the Prodance Dance Studio and became partially involved in its creative direction. He also became acquainted with club and LGBTQ culture at a very young age and remains active in these communities to this day. His work in performance, dance, music production, events organisation and as a DJ has shaped his relationship with creative processes. Rene is not afraid to play with the darker sides of sexuality, gender and club culture. Much of his approach is associated and derives from vogue and drag culture, but also club music, fetishes and the dark room world, as well as club-kid aesthetics.

The event is a part of the Kumu 18! programme.

Workshop working language is Estonian as well as English.
