This unconventional nature documentary is about the relationship between man and animal. As we follow the nature photographer and writer Heikki Willamo’s journey to the post ice-age northern wilderness, an imaginative & evocative view of man’s ancient relationship to his prey unfolds. Equal contributors to the story are the music by the Finnish jazz musicians Verneri Pohjola and Mika Kallio, the cinematography of Perttu Saksa and the text by Heikki Willamo, Finland’s most authoritative nature author.

Tough carries a lot of meanings: defiant, hard, resistant, strong and resilient… The film’s protagonist, Jarosław Surmacz, chose this name for his discovery: Harda (Tough) Cave in the Tatra Mountains of Poland. The place stirs his imagination while abruptly and obsessively pushing him forward. The camera follows him, step by step, taking part in the exploration of spaces never seen before, which increasingly resist the delicate human presence.
