Kumu Documentary: Five Seasons: The Gardens of Piet Oudolf
Dir Thomas Piper
USA 2017, 75 min
In English and Dutch, with Estonian and English subtitles
A film that takes the viewer into beautiful gardens, showing nature, public spaces and beauty through the eyes of a world-renowned Dutch garden designer.
The director Thomas Piper filmed the garden designer Piet Oudolf over five seasons as he designed gardens from New York’s High Line, and Hauser and Wirth’s prairie garden in Somerset, England to his own private garden at Hummelo in Holland.
“For me, garden design isn’t just about plants, it is about emotion, atmosphere, a sense of contemplation. You try to move people with what you do. You look at this, and it goes deeper than what you see. It reminds you of something in the genes — nature, or the longing for nature.” – Piet Oudolf
