Kumu Courtyard 2026 Summer Open Call

In its 20th anniversary year, the Kumu Art Museum is placing special emphasis on its courtyard. Throughout the summer, we are offering the opportunity to organise community events without a fee in the sculpture garden and other areas of this uniquely designed outdoor space. We invite local communities to host gatherings in the fresh air: whether it’s a yoga class, a reading club, a dance session or a communal cooking event, all are welcome.

Kumu sees its role as a facilitator of social and cultural dialogue, engaging diverse communities and groups while creating a friendly and open environment. The motto of the anniversary year is “Kumu brings people together!” We hope that communities near and far will enjoy the beautiful courtyard setting. The courtyard is open to all kinds of small initiatives that aim to strengthen community spirit rather than generate profit.

We invite everyone to help make the Kumu courtyard an open and welcoming space for all!

If you are interested, please send us your ideas through the application form available here: https://form.jotform.com/260672065342050

Courtyard areas can be reserved free of charge at least seven calendar days in advance. We will get back to you within five working days.

Reminders to the event organiser:

  • The purpose of the event must align with the museum’s core values and remain inclusive and respectful.
  • You will have access to the courtyard areas of the Kumu Art Museum as agreed in advance. Please bring your own equipment, including batterypowered sound devices, furniture and any other items needed for the event.
  • Events are welcome during the museum’s opening hours, provided they do not disturb exhibition visitors or interfere with the museum’s core activities.
  • Events may run until 9 pm. In exceptional cases, events may continue later, but this requires prior agreement with the museum and the necessary permits from both us and the city authorities. Please also consider potential additional costs, such as extended security staff presence.
  • In case of bad weather, it is possible to arrange a new event date if previously agreed with the museum.
  • The museum reserves the right to refuse the use of its premises if the nature or conditions of the event are, in the opinion of the Kumu Art Museum, unsuitable for the museum or may endanger the preservation of state or foundation property.
