Kumu 20!

On 13–15 February, Kumu will host a big birthday weekend to celebrate the museum’s 20th anniversary, open the birthday exhibition “Triumph of Galatea: Art in the Age of Artificial Intelligence”, and look back on Kumu’s two decades. The programme will include workshops, exhibition tours, talks and much more!

The festivities will begin on Friday, 13 February, with Kumu’s 20th anniversary party “Off to the Future”. The celebrations will kick off with the opening of the birthday exhibition “Triumph of Galatea: Art in the Age of Artificial Intelligence” and continue with performances by international and Estonian live artists and DJs. It is guaranteed to be the best party in the galaxy that night. Don’t miss out: sleep is just a computer game anyway. Richly varied performers will create a heterogenous soundscape to celebrate the era that has arrived and to usher in the next 20 years of Kumu. Tickets are available on Fienta.

On Saturday, 14 February, the focus will be on the anniversary exhibition “Triumph of Galatea: Art in the Age of Artificial Intelligence”. The opening programme includes exhibition tours led by the curator Anders Härm, as well as by Estonian and international artists. During a performance by the Danish-Brazilian artist Andreas Albrechtsen, an installation made of black desert sand will take shape in Kumu’s atrium. A panel discussion will follow, in which the technology philosopher Oliver Laas and the exhibiting artists will explore the role of art in the age of artificial intelligence.

On Sunday, 15 February, we will set off on a journey through Kumu Art Museum’s two decades: we will reflect on the museum’s origins, explore its architecture and discuss what kind of art museum we needed 20 years ago, what we need today, and what we might need 20 years from now. The day will offer activities for visitors of all ages: children and families are invited to playful exhibition tours and creative workshops, and adults can join architecture tours led by Mart Kalm, Marika Valk and Sirje Helme. Kadi Polli will introduce the international Great Hall exhibition “Spiegel im Spiegel”, and the day will conclude with a panel discussion on the evolving role of the art museum and our expectations for it in the decades ahead.

From 9–22 February, a selection of Kumu’s merchandise will be discounted 20% in the museum shop.
On Tuesday, 17 February, you can visit Kumu with a 2 € birthday ticket.
