Borders is a collaborative work by Anett Tamm and David Chevallier, inspired by their concert tour, The Ophelia Songbook, which took place in 2021. The music is composed by Chevallier, paired with Tamm’s lyrics. “Borders” looks at the border as a multi-layered physical and cognitive concept through different perspectives: exile, discovery, migration, encounter, experimentation, friction. But “Borders” also dissects the language and commandments of a person’s inner world, and how borders can be harassing for one, but a sense of security for another.

David Chevallier is a leading figure in contemporary French jazz. His trio was formed in 2013, initially focusing on jazz standards, and their debut album, Standards & Avatars, garnered widespread acclaim for its innovative arrangements. In 2016, the trio released their second album, Second Life, showcasing original compositions. To create a distinct jazz-folk sound, Chevallier transitioned from electric guitar to 6- and 12-string acoustic guitars and banjo.

Anett Tamm is a singer, improviser and composer involved in projects that showcase diverse sounds and artistic ambitions. Her main endeavours include the indie jazz duo TamTam, alongside bassist Karl Tammaru, the alternative folk-pop solo project Alonette, the art-pop ensemble Alfa Collective, and contemporary and improvisational jazz groups Anemoon and Kvartnett. Through her various ensembles, Tamm has achieved international recognition. In the spring of 2022, she was honoured with the Young Jazz Talent award at the Estonian Jazz Awards.

The tour of “Borders” is produced by Le Sonart (Nantes) and Vapaat äänet (Helsinki), with the support of: French Institute of Estonia, AJC, Adami, CNM, Spedidam, Institut Francais – Ville de Nantes.

In partnership with Kumu drums.
