Bold Contrasts and Reliefs
The course is held in Estonian, but English translation is possible.
In the three-part linocut and blind stamping course, the participants will combine two interesting printmaking techniques. Linocut is a technique that uses linoleum with cut outs for printing. Blind stamping’s specific quality is the creation of an impression in the colour of the printing paper, which can either be higher or lower than the paper surface.
Linocut is mostly known as a relief printing technique, but in this course the participants will be introduced to the possibilities of using linocut as an intaglio printing technique, i.e. combined with blind stamping. The results will be compelling 3D surfaces and one run under the press can make a multicolour print. Every participant can choose to create a card, bookmark, ex libris or an abstract composition.
The course is part of the public programme of Kumu’s “Ado Vabbe. Wunderbar” exhibition. Ado Vabbe was an Estonian artist known for abstract prints and paintings.
