Based on the well-known fairy tale by Charles Perrault, the Walt Disney’s animation Cinderella premiered in 1950 and was the twelfth production by the Disney studios in a series of full-length animations. The film proved to be a financial and critical success, and thereby saved the studio from a difficult financial situation. A number of film historians and critics consider this to be one of the best examples of American classical animation. The film won the Golden Bear Award for musical films at the 1st Berlin Film Festival, and has been repeatedly nominated for the American Film Institute’s list of best American films.
